L'animazione in stop-motion è ancora poco valorizzata tra i cineasti italiani, perciò ci proponiamo di favorirne la diffusione. A tal fine, abbiamo organizzato un workshop professionalizzante a numero chiuso tenuto da una figura tra i massimi esponenti della stop-motion italiana: il regista Massimo Ottoni. Dopo la laurea in Lettere, Musica e Spettacolo all'Università La Sapienza di Roma, Massimo Ottoni si è specializzato in animazione presso il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Torino, dove ha co-diretto il suo film di diploma Imperium Vacui (2014), co-diretto con Linda Kelvink. Negli anni successivi ha lavorato come freelance, realizzando diversi cortometraggi d'animazione, spot pubblicitari e film su commissione. Nel 2015 ha diretto le sequenze di animazione del lungometraggio di Egidio Eronico Nessuno mi troverà, su Ettore Majorana. Nel 2016 ha diretto due cortometraggi, The Steinway prodotto da Istituto Luce Cinecittà, e Water Hunters per la Regione Piemonte (co-regia con Salvatore Centoducati). Nel 2016 ha insegnato al Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Torino e all'Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) di Milano, seguendo come tutor due progetti di laurea. Nello stesso anno è co-fondatore di Ibrido Studio. Attualmente lavora come animatore, autore e regista freelance. È considerato uno dei migliori artisti italiani di stop-motion. Il workshop è rivolto agli studenti di cinema d’animazione stop-motion di tutta Italia, perché possano godere di un’esperienza immersiva di alta formazione, della durata di tre giorni. Lo scopo è produrre un breve cortometraggio che verrà proiettato in occasione della cerimonia di chiusura del festival stesso. L’evento è a porte chiuse e si terrà per gli studenti selezionati nella Sala Cube.
Stop-motion animation is still underrepresented among Italian filmmakers, and we aim to promote its wider dissemination. To this end, we have organized a professional, limited-enrollment workshop led by one of the most prominent figures in Italian stop-motion: comic artist and director Massimo Ottoni.
After earning a degree in Literature, Music, and Performing Arts from La Sapienza University of Rome, Massimo Ottoni specialized in animation at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Turin, where he co-directed his graduation film Imperium Vacui (2014) with Linda Kelvink. In the following years, he worked as a freelancer, creating several animated short films, commercials, and commissioned works. In 2015, he directed the animated sequences of the feature film Nessuno mi troverà by Egidio Eronico, about physicist Ettore Majorana. In 2016, he directed two short films: The Steinway, produced by Istituto Luce Cinecittà, and Water Hunters for the Piedmont Region (co-directed with Salvatore Centoducati).
In 2016, he taught at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Turin and at the European Institute of Design (IED) in Milan, where he supervised two graduate projects as a tutor. That same year, he co-founded Ibrido Studio. He currently works as a freelance animator, creator, and director, and is regarded as one of Italy’s leading stop-motion artists.The workshop is open to stop-motion animation students from across Italy, offering an immersive, high-level training experience over three days. The goal is to produce a short film that will be screened during the festival’s closing ceremony. The event will be held behind closed doors in the Cube Room and is reserved for selected students.
